ARCH 471 Enclosures Project 2

I decided to hand draw all of the details to try and get a better understanding of the enclosure composition. This had the added affect of requiring countless hours of line drawing and redrawing. I used the compilation of all the final drawings as my title page to represent all of the energy and effort it took to create these details.

I looked at a case study for Otto's Studio about small performance theaters. The Gerding Theater by GBD Architects in Portland, Oregon provided an interesting example. The design is a unique response to the existing armory structure as a shell around the new theater. This provided an opportunity to highlight the wooden truss work of the ceiling.

REVISIONS-

I repositioned the main text to fill in some of the white space on page 2 and enlarged my primary perspective of the corridor on page 1 and aligned the the orthographic views. I tried to weight the pages more evenly with a 2:1 ratio on Page 1 and a 1:1:1 on Page 2. Page 1

Theory
-I was trying to create different planes that were both horizontal and vertical and then shafts that intersected these planes. The primary vertical void was created in one corner with horizontal planes surrounding it. The horizontal void passed by it on the other side of the cube.

Theory
-I was looking to expand on the Subtractive Box here with more recognizably differentiated planes that look a bit like letters. I wanted the shapes to be more differentiated with more space in between but not so much that the primary voids were made less important.
